GANESH CHATURTHI - A GLORIOUS CELEBRATION

India is an abode to long drawn festivities which are filled with colors, happiness and an element of togetherness. Among the myriad of festivals and cultural traditions that are a part of the diverse Indian Calendar, one such occasion is Ganesh Chaturthi.  This day marks the birthday celebrations of the 'elephant-headed' god, Lord Ganesha.

  • THE GANESHA FESTIVAL

In India, Lord Ganesha is revered as the God Of Auspicious Beginnings and the Lord of clearing obstacles. No important work is ever commenced without the blessings of Ganpati. The reverence of this festival lies in the same fact. It is the time for Ganesha devotees to offer their prayers, love and gratitude to their beloved god. Ganesh Festival is a 10 day long celebration that is observed in the month of Bhadrapada and is concluded with a vibrant procession of Ganesh Visarjan.

  • THE GANESHA FESTIVAL CELEBRATIONS

It is the most extensively celebrated in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Vibrant colors and beautiful decorations can be seen in every street. Devotees enthusiastically decorate their homes to welcome Ganpati. The clay idols of Lord Ganesha are adorned with flowers and ornaments. Ganesha Staphna is done in the homes as well as temples on the day of Vinayaka Chaturthi  followed by performing Ganesh Puja Muhurat for the next 10 days. The final day marks the observance of Ganesh Visrajan. Ganpati idol is carried out from respective homes amidst much splendor and chants of 'Ganpati Bappa Morya' and with a massive procession to a sea or a river for immersion. Ganesh Utsav is all about worshipping the almighty in the physical form as well as the formless state. It is believed that at the time of immersion, Ganesha takes away all the sins and obstacles of his devotees blessing them with a happy life.
